In the 1980s the AIDS epidemic was at its peak, People of all kinds dying left and right. However, the disease was found a lot in men who had sex with men, So the FDA excluded gay men all together from being able to donate blood because they thought that would prevent contamination during blood transfusions and things of that nature. However, anyone can have HIV or AIDS, so I'm not entirely sure why they excluded the whole gay community... Just a weird precaution I guess I'm sure they had good intentions??
Why was there a ban?
